Dyeing Workshop Fun

Well, now that I am finally feeling a little less like something the cat hacked up and have gotten all my electronics working together (at least for now), I will try to get caught up on my blogging.

First of all, thank you to everyone who has covered for me and my apologies for missed classes and workshops. I really appreciate all the support during this tough time.

We had so much fun at our last dyeing workshop! Everyone jumped in enthusiastically and wasn't afraid to try experimenting with color.

We will be dyeing again on 3/30. Hope you can join us!

Summertime and the Knitting is Lacy!

Boy, Spring has sure sprung here! We are almost into the 80s already, although at least the mornings and evenings are still cool. As you can see, Precious and Angus are taking advantage of it. Summer will be here before we know it!

What kind of knitting or crocheting do you like to do as the weather gets warmer? I think socks are a great year 'round project but what other kinds of things do you think of working on?

I have always liked doing open, lacy wraps and toppers. Around here, the air conditioning can get so cold during the summer that having something light to wear in the office over a shell or sundress is just perfect. That way, you can take it off when you go outside and perspire on something that is easily washed.

This is the popular Mitered Summer Shawl as originally made.

And this is the re-make that is underway in a new, fresh colorway. What do you think?


This is a beaded shrug also in progress using a super fine kid mohair. It is going to be very elegant yet practical.

The other great thing about these projects is that they are perfect for proms, parties, vacations, weddings or any other special events you might have planned for the summer.

Yarn Tasting and Scrappy Mitering

Boy, time does fly! Can't believe it has been a month since my last post. I know- bad blogger!Just seems like there is always something else to do.

Wanted to show some of the ideas for scrappy projects that we will touch on in March. Of course, one of my favorites are modular units, or mitering. This one is using mostly silks and Chris Bylsma's Crayonbox pattern.

Hopefully I can finish it for the spring.

This is just an example using both stockinette stitch and reverse stockinette stitch in some worsted weight scraps.


These 2 pictures show sock yarns, or fingering weights, being used in a "patchwork" fashion.

We are having our first yarn tasting on Saturday, March 1, and it will feature sock yarns. We have so many new ones and there are so many things that can be done with them besides socks that we thought it would be fun to just "taste" them. We will offer 12 different yarns and it will include a free pattern for the module above. The "plate" will include enough yarn and the instructions to be able to complete a mitered scarf. We will also have some other ideas for these great yarns and, of course, lots of free sock patterns.

Some New Garments and a Big Thank You

Not much blogging going on- I've been pretty under the weather. But did want to let you know about a couple of fun items at the shop.

This is the Ozark Wrap that will be in the upcoming Vogue. It is on loan to us from David and Terri for another month or so. We will be getting this color of Ozark in, as well as some other new colors. Come by and check it out. I guess I could have left the menu out of the picture!

We are also getting in some new colors of Lusty Loop from D'Elin at Drop Spindle for the Loopy Ozark Wrap. Look for those on Wednesday or Thursday.

Speaking of Drop Spindle, here is the completed cardigan for the Drop Spindle kit that we are now stocking. Haven't named it yet but I will come up with something snappy. It is incredibly soft and drapy and D'Elin has some great new colors coming in a few weeks.
I will also be designing a cardiwrap using this same combo of yarns. Just need to find a little time to work on it.

I need to send out a huge "Thank You!" to everyone who has covered the shop for the last 3 weekends. To Charlene, Mary, Cheryl and Natalie for the week of TNNA and to Tiernieny, Mary, Bonnie and Natalie for last weekend so I could get some rest and especially to Tiernieny for this weekend when I was ill. I am so sorry to anyone who came in for a workshop and I wasn't there but will try to make special arrangements to make up for missing these activities.
